“Il Casalone” is an old country estate, sections of which date to the late 1700’s. Well-maintained and restructured over the years, this large and beautiful home is exquisitely located on a sleepy hillside and surrounded by our own olive groves and green hills, with views of the famous domed cathedral in Florence. In past times, this house provided an ideal repose for young Florentine writers and artists who gathered here to find inspiration for their work. The owners of “Il Casalone” currently live on the premises.
Many years ago, typical domestic countryside activities were carried out at “Il Casalone.” Traces of these activities are seen in the old outdoor oven used for baking bread, the “tini” (wine vats) where wine was made, and the old “torchio” (olive press) where olives were pressed to make oil. During the Second World War, “Il Casalone” was a licensed oil manufacturer.
